Michael Klasno, the founder along with other members of Gold Star Dads, Gold Star Mothers, Gold Star Wives and Blue Star Mothers, visited Fort Irwin Sept. 22. The installation honored the Families of fallen troops with a display table in front of The Exchange that provided information on the Gold Star and Blue Star organizations.
The purpose of the Gold Star Families display was to educate the public about the Gold Star and Blue Star organizations, said Lori Picard, Survivor Outreach Services support coordinator.
“On a normal day, we value heroism because it is uncommon. On Sept. 11, we valued heroism because it was everywhere.”
Nancy Gibbs, Time Magazine
In New York City, at the Pentagon, on a plane flying over Pennsylvania, in cities and towns across America . . . heroism was on display ten years ago.
We pause to reflect and to remember the heroes of that day; and the heroes that continue to dedicate themselves on a daily basis to our nation, to serving others, and to protecting the precious freedoms we enjoy. We remember those on the ground and in the air that day; the fire fighters, police officers, military members, passengers on the American and United flights, those in the World Trade Center, and countless ordinary citizens that offered help. We remember their families and loved ones. . . .

As Gold Star Parents we also pause to reflect on what might have been if that day hadn’t happened. Sept. 11th 2001 was the first blow of the forgers hammer that tempered our sons and daughters resolve; and ultimately took them away to a foreign land to give their lives, unselfishly, for our freedom, nothing in our life has been the same since. The Gold Star Dads of America organization will continue to lift up the Families of these fine Americans in prayer and continue to honor and celebrate their remarkable lives.
