The Loma Linda Veterans Hospital in southern California was aglow with the sights and sounds of Christmas on December 18thfor the first ever Blue & Gold Christmas at the VA.
The event was sponsored by Gold Star Dads of America but we couldn’t have pulled it off without the awesome support of the Blue Star Moms “A Team” and our civilian volunteers.
The previous week members from the Blue Star Moms H.O.M.E and Blue Star “A Team’ members, spent 3 hours decorating the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Medical Center. After putting up three (3) Christmas and decorating the Community Living Center & OEF/OIF/OND Offices, they still found energy to hang door decorations on patient rooms on 3 floors of the main Hospital. So getting ready for a little Christmas party for 100 of our sweetest veterans was a piece of cake, literally.
During a pause between patient arrivals OEF/OIF/OND coordinator Jacqueline Taylor presented Gold Star Dads of America, Inland Empire Gold Star Moms and the Blue Star “A Team” with certificates of appreciation. Thank You for the recognition Jacqueline but believe me the pleasure was all ours.
In the end I think we saw about 60 patients and volunteer handlers in the Community Living Center and then the Blue & Gold volunteers loaded up the sleigh with goodies and visited about 40 rooms. Dubbed the Blue & Gold Santa Express our merry band of elves passed out cheer and sang Christmas Carols all the way, What a Great Blessing this day was.
Thank You Blue Star Moms from H.O.M.E. Thanks a million A Team, Gold Star Family Members & Volunteers you were all awesome. Thank You hospital personnel and especially, Thank You Veterans, We hope you had as good of time as we did. See You All Next Year.
